Brazil Project

For some years now Light-of-Nature supports a project in the Amazon region in Brazil to conserve Rosewood-trees and the making of indigenous products by a women group.

A short travel report by Mrs. Scherneck

During my journey to the Amazon area in November 2004 I became personally aware of the extent of destruction. Even today big forrest areas are still destroit forever through systematic fire clearings. If you ever experienced this fragile Eco-system in its variety you'll understand what I mean. I visited two villages, one at the Rio Solimeos and one at the Rion Amazones, and initiates two projects.

Silves - a small village

Silves is situated at a side branch of the big Amazon river and there a project to protect the Rosewood trees has come into being.
The women of the village has founded the association "AVIVE", whose Initiator and Coordinator is Barbara Schmal.
In the following interview Mrs. Schmal updates you about recent events.

Adventure Rosewood Oil

Interview with Barbara Schmal, Co-ordinator of the AVIVE project.

Rosewood Oil - the essential oil - is destilled from the wood of the Amazon tree "Aniba rosaeodora", This oil is a favoured in the aroma therapy.
It has a delicate fragrance and can be used easily in cosmetic as it has an anti-bacterial effect because of its 92% of Linalool (Monoterpen-alcohol) content. It also is one of the more affortable oils. One hears again and again that the essential oils, which are exported to Europe, are basically a by-product of the furniture- and musical instrument industry, as they like to use the wood from tropical trees.
